Time tracking
Using the timer
One timer at a time, and why it survives a closed tab.
Start the timer from the dashboard, a case, or the Time page. A banner stays at the top of every page while it runs.
WHY IT CANNOT BE LOST
Elapsed time is calculated from a timestamp on the server, not counted up in your browser. Close the tab, lose your connection, clear your site data, let the laptop sleep — when you come back the timer shows the right figure, because nothing was being counted locally to lose.
Only one timer runs at a time. Starting a second is refused rather than quietly replacing the first.
STOPPING
The stop dialog shows the real elapsed time and a separate editable field for the hours to log, pre-filled rounded UP to the next quarter hour. Seven minutes of work therefore offers 0.25, not 0.12.
You get three choices: log the entry, keep the timer running (for when you hit stop by accident), or discard it. The timer is only cleared once the entry has saved, so a failure cannot lose the time.
